The verdict - okay
I bought a bag of these "Ultimate" Ruffles for an afternoon barbecue this weekend, and they really weren't what I was expecting. These chips are made with ridiculously deep ridges so they can stand up to any type of dip you choose to drag them through. They are super thick, and I have no doubt they could be pulled through the thickest of dips without suffering any breakage.
For some reason (maybe because of the ULTIMATE name) I thought that these chips would have more of a kick to them. The jalapeno and ranch flavor hit me at about the same exact moment, although.. the ranch seemed more like sour cream flavor to me. Something else I got with these chips was somewhat of a grassy taste. Not bad I guess, if you dig wheat grass.. and I do not. The jalapeno flavor tried to get something going, but I wouldn't exactly call it heat.
I don't think I will be buying this particular variety of Ultimate Ruffles again, but the texture is interesting enough to warrant buying the Ultimate Sweet & Smokin' BBQ variety soon.
